This time around, DC Shoes definitely shook things up as it rolled out a global competition that tapped the unique and creative perspective of its fans. Proving to be a cut above the rest, DC knows that it takes more than just churning out one product after another to solidify its iconic status as a world-renowned performance skateboarding shoe and action sports lifestyle brand in just over two decades. Not only do these guys seek to entertain their hugs fan-base but also to allow them to participate and express themselves.
The DC Shoes South East Asia TRASE YOURS Design competition called out to all artists, creators, and designers from each participating country including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines to submit their original custom design for the new DC Trase shoes, which features a vulcanized low profile silhouette and clean upper design – making it perfect for applying almost any artwork.
The grand winner’s design will be chosen from the top 20 designs gathered from the participating regions during the online submission process. The winning design will then be featured as part of the DC Shoes 2016 collection, which will be sold exclusively throughout the best shoe retailing stores in the region. Submissions for the Southeast Asian competition opened in May 15 and closed last June 30.
However, given that each country will have its own country winner, DC Philippines held an art exhibit last July 29 at A Space in Makati to showcase the top design submissions for the competition. Hosted by none other than pinoy rock icon Basti Artadi of Wolfgang, the event kicked off by inviting guests to view the works. Revolving around the theme of street culture, the pieces selected were successful in translating these elements and combining it with the brand’s unique design aesthetic. The results were ambitious and expressive, all strived to innovate without losing touch of the brand’s identity.
There was on-the-spot judging by a select panel of media and creative industry pundits. Among the chosen judges were Jowee Alviar, Creative Director and Owner of Team Manila; Marci Reyes of TBWA/SMP Tequilla; Lornel Bihasa, DC Rider and Architecture student from the University of Santo Tomas; and Tracy Montinola, Creative Director for Marketing Services Department, Primer Group of Companies. At the end of the day, the entry called “Flock” from Ms. Judith Anne Talania won the judges hearts and became the Philippines’ grand winner. Best part is, she got to take home a smooth P35,000 in cash and another P35,000 worth of gift certificates!
Congratulations once again Ms. Judith Anne Talania.
It is no surprise that DC Shoes continues to be ten steps ahead in the game. From its innovative and stylish performance footwear and lifestyle products to the global athletes it supports, DC proves to be more than just a brand but rather, a pillar for the action sports community as it maintains a strong connection with its fans. This season, DC reaches out to its community by allowing artists and designers a platform to showcase their skills and talents. For more information, visit http://www.dcshoes.com.ph/trase-yours
